What We Do
Energy Choices, P.C. is a Chicago Area-based company that buys electricity and natural gas for its customers through an RFP process and assists commercial, industrial and institutional customers reduce utility expenses. Since our founding in 1997, we have saved our clients tens of millions of dollars through strategic positioning, effective energy procurement and improved operations.
Who We Are
We are a group of seasoned
professionals. Our principals each have over twenty years of experience in the energy industry. Our experience spans from buying electricity and naturals gas to energy management at large institutions, to designing and installing turnkey power plants. Most of our professionals are Professional Engineers and/or Certified Energy Managers, and they have advance business or technical degrees. This is to ensure that your questions are answered by knowledgeable people - who "have been there."
DAVID A. MILLER, P.E. -- President, Energy Choices, P.C.
Mr. Miller has over thirty years experience in electricity and natural gas purchasing, engineering, consulting, project development, sales, project management and corporate administration. Mr. Miller has studied the electricity and natural gas markets in the Chicago Area and has advised various clients on ways to save money on their energy costs. He has also successfully negotiated site purchase agreements, operating contracts, long term electricity, and steam sales, as well as subcontracts and vendor purchase agreements.
Areas of expertise include: assessing technical and economic feasibility of on-site power generation projects; negotiating alternative rates with utilities; and developing interactive computer models which evaluate project economics by integrating technical parameters, rate forecasts, tax consequences and turnkey costs.
Mr. Miller received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
CRAIG R. SCHUTTENBERG, P.E. -- Vice President, Energy Choices,
P.C.
Mr. Schuttenberg has over twenty years of experience in the energy industry in various capacities including electricity and natural gas purchasing, administration, energy management, financial analysis, project management, process engineering and operations engineering. By utilizing his financial, technical and negotiating skills, he has initiated and implemented changes that have resulted in multi-million dollar savings for his clients and employers.
Areas of expertise include: negotiating electricity and natural gas contracts; evaluating capital investment options for energy alternative projects; developing alternate fuel strategies; and creating overall energy strategies.
Mr. Schuttenberg received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
MOLLIE
VANDERLAAN, Energy Consultant
Ms. VanderLaan has extensive experience selling and marketing electricity to a wide variety of customers in ComEd's territory. She is customer oriented and retains a significant portion of her client base by providing them with excellent service. As a consultant she advises customers in building sound energy strategies and executing energy supply agreements. Mollie received a BS in Political Science from Northwestern University.
